Frequently Asked Questions
What is Kambô and how does it work?
Kambô is a secretion from the Amazonian giant monkey frog used in sacred ceremonies to support deep detoxification and healing. When applied to small burns on the skin, its bioactive peptides interact with the lymphatic and nervous systems, helping to release toxins, reset the immune system, and clear energetic blocks.
Is Kambô safe?
Kambô is generally safe when administered by a trained, certified practitioner who understands proper screening, dosage, and ceremony flow. I carefully screen each client to ensure Kambô is appropriate, and I create a safe, grounded space with trauma-informed care.
Do I have to fast before a Kambô ceremony?
Yes, fasting is an important part of preparing for Kambô. You’ll need to fast from food for 8–12 hours beforehand and avoid alcohol, heavy foods, and certain medications in the days leading up. I’ll provide you with specific prep guidelines ahead of your session.
What should I expect during the ceremony?
You’ll sit in a quiet, supported space while I apply small burns (called “gates”) to your skin, followed by the Kambô. After that, most people experience a purge—through vomiting, sweating, tears, or other releases. The session usually lasts 20–40 minutes, followed by rest and integration. I also offer hape to help ground before the medicine is applied and sananga for added clearing and grounding after the medicine is removed.
Does it hurt? What does it feel like?
The experience can be intense but it’s temporary. You may feel heat, pressure, nausea, or dizziness during the purge. It’s a physical and energetic cleanse. Most people report feeling clearer, lighter, or more grounded afterward—even if the journey was uncomfortable in the moment.
Can I do a ceremony in my home?
Yes! I offer mobile Kambô ceremonies, meaning I travel to your home or other safe location in the Minneapolis area. I bring all the necessary supplies and set up a sacred, supportive space so you can receive the medicine comfortably.
How will I feel after?
Everyone is different. Some people feel energized and uplifted right away, while others need rest. Emotional releases, vivid dreams, or spiritual insights are common. I recommend taking the rest of the day off and hydrating well afterward. I’m always available to support your integration.
How many sessions should I do?
That depends on your goals and what your body is calling for. Traditionally, a series of 3 (called the inoculation) is recommended. That said, some people feel complete after one ceremony, while others benefit from a series. We can talk about your intentions and decide what feels right for your healing path.
